JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has initiated a consumer protection investigation aimed at combatting dangerous and illicit products in the state. The investigation focuses on illicit vape and marijuana products to ensure compliance with Missouri law and safeguard consumers from potential harm.

Attorney General Bailey emphasized the importance of protecting Missourians, stating, "Under state law, Missourians have a right to live free from fraud and deception in the marketplace, and they have the right to know exactly what is in the products they consume." He highlighted the dangers posed by certain products, especially those targeting children, and expressed his commitment to halting the sale of harmful items.

The investigation, prompted by adverse health incidents affecting children in Missouri and across the nation, particularly addresses the risks associated with Delta-8 products. Following reports of children falling ill after ingesting Delta-8 products disguised as candies, Attorney General Bailey issued civil investigative demands to businesses selling such goods, alleging illegal marketing practices.

The civil investigative demands target companies selling products containing CBD, Delta-8, and Delta-9 THC, citing concerns of deception, fraud, and unfair practices. Additionally, distributors of e-cigarettes and illicit vapes are under scrutiny for potentially engaging in unlawful practices, as stated in the issued demands.

Through the issuance of subpoenas, Attorney General Bailey aims to uncover any fraudulent or deceptive activities among sellers and distributors of these products. He affirmed his dedication to prioritizing consumer safety, especially that of children, and assured that his office is fully committed to upholding marketplace integrity and protecting Missourians.
